Annual Billtown Blues Festival, Hughesville PA - June 9th, 2002 |
As part
of winning the 2002 Billtown Blues Association's Talent contest this
past March, we were given the opening slot at the Billtown Blues Festival.
What a gas! We opened the festival playing to a couple of thousand
hard-core blues fans at the Greater Lycoming Fairgrounds in Hughesville,
PA. After playing our set, we then settled in to watch the rest of
the bill: E. G. Kight, Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie, Saffire
the Uppity Blues Women, and the incomparable Levon Helm and the Barnburners.
Here are some great shots from our buddy Tom McEvoy (check out his
site at http://www.winnerschooseace.com)
of our set, and the great acts we opened for! Thanks again to Bonnie
Tallman for organizing the whole affair, and anytime you want us back,
folks, just yell - we had a BLAST!!!!
Thanks also to our friend Gunther Beck
from Germany who sent us a couple of great shots we've included below
- Danke, pal!

E. G. Kight (check
out her site) - a great set, a bitchin' red Strat, and a very
hot band. Her version of Etta James' classic 'At Last' brought the
crowd to their feet.

Nothing like some
zydeco on a hot day, and Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie (check
out their site) provided some great rockin' music! How he was
able to wear a heavy flannel shirt on a day like that I'll never know
- I guess this is nothing compared to summertime in Louisiana....
|
Saffire, the Uppity
Blues Women (check
out their site) were next, and Gaye Adegbalola led the women in
some righteous blues, and the crowd loved it. I now know what BITCH
stands for (Being In Total Control of Herself....). You go, girls.

|
Levon Helm and the
Barnburners (check
out their site) were the last act we were able to see, and what
a thrill to meet a man who is truly a legend in music. His drumming
is as strong as ever, and he clearly loves to do it. WIth a very strong
band fronted by Chris O'Leary on the harp and vocals and Pat O'Shea
on that gorgeous old Les Paul, these guys put on an awesome show.
